With so many local boarding catteries how do you know which one is best for your kitten or cat? It can be daunting finding the best cattery near you, but with The Pet Guides local boarding cattery search that daunting task can be a thing of the past.

Advice on finding the best boarding cattery

It is recommended that you search way in advance before you actually need to use your selected cattery as it can take some time to find it, and once you have found your perfect local cattery near you don't forget to book you cat in advance because catteries can get booked quickly (especially during school/holiday times!).

To search for your cattery start by selecting what areas you would be happy to take your kitten or cat to and write them down. Next search for local boarding catteries in your area by using The Pet Guide's fast and easy cattery finder at www.thepetguide.co.uk (which shows over 1000 listed catteries).

With selecting your favourite local boarding catteries it is recommended to do your research, read reviews and ask others on their experience with your selected cattery. Our most important tip is to visit the local boarding cattery in advance because a well run boarding cattery should always be happy to show you around.

Another tip we also recommend is to see how your cat reacts around the sound of dogs, because you will find that some catteries can be combined with kennels and although they may be in completely different sections, your cat could hear sounds of dogs barking and the last thing you would want is your cat being more distressed!

So I've selected which local boarding cattery to use, what next?

Congratulations on finding your reliable local boarding cattery! so is their anything else I need to do? well heres a few handy tips to remember:

Accommodation for cats

Yes that's rite, just like us humans when we go away on holiday you will always find that their are different types of accommodations available - and it's pretty much the same for catteries so make sure you ask what types of accommodation are available. It is also important to ask for opening times because you don't want to be picking up you cat when it's closed!

Feeding your cat

Make sure you ask all about the cats feeding, and tell them if your cat has any special dietary requirements - if they are a loyal cattery they will always be happy to help and follow your cats dietary conditions.

Medical issues or illness

Dont forget to inform your local boarding cattery of any medical conditions your cat has or any medications that may need to be administered (most catteries are happy to do this, but some may include a small fee for doing this so always ask).

Make sure your cattery asks to see your up to date vaccination card (every licensed cattery should insist this), if not make sure to question this because the last thing you want is your cat exposed to diseases from other cats staying at the cattery.

And finally make sure you are happy with your chosen cattery! If something does not feel rite or you don't feel comfortable leaving your cat their for any reason - leave, it's far better to spend a bit more time finding the perfect place for your cat than worrying.
